About Disc Repair

What is it and how does it work?
Disc repair involves the resurfacing of the polycarbonate layer on a optical disc. A typical optical disc can be repaired many times. The process involves a combination of compound (wet or dry) and polishing pad(s) to remove scratch damage. The compound acts as a mild abrasive that gently buffs out damage while the polishing pads ensure the disc is resurfaced uniformly and to provide the primary abrasive action. Any damage can be repaired as long it is confined to the polycarbonate layer, where most normal damage occurs. However, any damage that affects the foil layer of the disc, either through a heavy gouge, dent, crack, or warping, cannot be repaired and the disc should be disposed of properly.

Why on Earth would I want to repair my discs?
Well, being kind to Mother Earth is one reason. Did you know that about 4 million discs are thrown in the garbage every day? That’s 1.46 billion discs ending up in landfills every year! It takes around 500 years for these discs to decompose. A lot of these discs are still functional and a majority of damaged ones are repairable to like new using DISC-GO-TECH repair products. The consumables that our machines use, such as our polishing compounds and finishing sprays are environmentally friendly, bio-degradable and non-toxic.

A second reason to repair discs is the cost-savings. The investment that you put into your discs can easily amount to a sizeable fortune. Imagine the cost of replacing just several scratched up game discs at 60 to 70 dollars each. Now imagine being able to renew those discs for pennies on the dollar. Even with online downloading and ever-increasing computer hard drive capacities, the optical disc still remains one of the most convenient, transportable ways to deliver and organize content and will remain so for a very long time.

Finally, disc repair can easily be used as an additional revenue generator for a new or existing business. Whether you offer disc repair as a service to the public or rent, buy and resell damaged disc inventories, disc repair can be one of the easiest ways to generate additional cash flow and enhance foot traffic in public and commercial spaces. Disc repair revenues can quickly make up for the cost of your investment and allow you to add a flexible component to your business.
